Giga Data Center Magdeburg Region
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Location: Development of a site adjacent to an international data transmission line (backbone) and integration into surrounding solar and wind farm areas with a planned expansion from 300 MW today to up to 1 GW capacity.
Data Center: Development of a CO₂-neutral data center building (powered shell & core) with a 300 MW grid connection (250 MW IT capacity).
Build to Suit: The project offers to meet the specific needs of large tech companies (hyperscaler) and will be developed in collaboration with the future tenant.
Power within the fence: Power supply will be provided within the fence from local green energy sources such as solar and wind power, as well as biomass and other sources.
24/7 Carbon-free Electricity: With the onsite development of a grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) we aim to balance supply of carbon-free electricity and data center energy consumption to achieve an hourly matching rate of >85 %.
CO₂-neutrality over Life Cycle: The data center building will be constructed to the extent possible using a hybrid mass timber construction system to minimize embedded emissions. The unavoidable CO₂ emissions from data center construction and equipment will be offset by biodiversity credits from our Rainforest Conservation Project in Brazil. We intend, too, to offset operational carbon emissions as part of the lease or in any other meaningful way.
